Contract
In this project FIELD Engineers was approached by the mine operator to prepare lift plans for the recovery of a mining haul truck after rollover. This project required a fast turnaround due to time constraints caused by the upset workflow within the mine.
Considerations
- There were time pressures relating to project clean-up.
- The accident site was located near a major highway and highly visible to the public.
- Rollover loads difficult to calculate.
- There was potential ground instability around the haul truck creating an additional layer of complexity.
Challenges & Approaches
Detailed Centre of Gravity analysis provided crane load shares at all times during the rollover.
Structural assessment prior to lifting ensured that no further damage was caused by the recovery effort, eliminating insurance disputes.
Accurate modelling ensures that all dimensions were known prior to lifting, eliminating unplanned crane movements.
SUCCESS:
Recovery efforts were carried out quickly and without further incident or damage to truck or personnel.
Outcomes
The recovery of the haul trucks was carried out safely and the hire time of cranes was minimised; saving costs.
The site regulator was assured of safety and control of work at mine site.
The Insurer was assured that damage to plant was minimised during truck recovery.
